Continue Thing #2

Furthermore, I wish to learn more about technology through this course. All this is so new to me, I had no idea what Web 2.0 meant. I am still not too sure, but I know that it involves the use of technology and all the new and amazing tools offered now days to use in our classroom. This year I am finally getting a promethean board (wohoo!) and my goal is to find great ways in which to use it. I don't want to be looking at it the whole year wishing the wall was empty so I could post things, but rather use it as a tool for teaching. I am more than excited to learn all I can so that I can have the tools to use technology more successfully this coming year.

Thing #2

I truly enjoyed all the videos about web 2.0
The video on "The machine is using us" was fascinating. I never saw technology that way, until I was awaken by the video. Another video that really made an impact on me was " A vision of k-12 students today" As I watched the video, I saw the face of some of own students in the past years. I am guilty of not keeping up or integrating technology the way I should in my classroom. There are endless opportunities every single day to incorporate technology in our lessons, but we chose to teach the traditional, boring way. Maybe it's that we don't want to spend the time planning or researching ways in which we can engage our kids. Either way, technology is advancing rapidly, and we need to attempt to keep up. If not, our students are going to grow bored and we won't be able to blame anyone but ourselves.

Thing #1

The most challenging habit for me is habit 7 1/2. I wish I could find the time to play around with different programs and technology, but it seems impossible. I am a mother of two babies and finishing up my master's degree, and I just can't find time for anything else. I am sure playing around with technology is the best way for me to learn, but I truly feel that I am living on what seems to be an 8 hour day.

The easiest habit for me is viewing problems as challenges. I have more than enough blessings in my life to view every obstacle that comes my way as a challenge. I have learned not to panic when a problems arises, because as my uncle says, "Can you solve the problem? Great! and if you can't, why worry? there is nothing you can do about it."

The most important habit for me is to have confidence in myself as a competent, effective learner. At times, I get frustrated because I am not a pro when it comes to technology. I don't use the best programs, I don't always incorporate technology into my lessons, and I don't have the time to take staff development after school. What I realized today is that nobody is born a professional. It takes time to learn and even if it's a slow process, the important thing is to get there, not how long it takes.

Just trying it out!
